About The Project:
These clients contacted our team at DJ Moore Lofts with plans to create a master bedroom and ensuite in the vacant attic space of their Victorian semi-detached home. Having checked out some of our previous loft conversions in Bedford, they felt confident they could trust us with their property.
What We Did:
From the first inspection, the potential of this property was clear. While the loft space was dingy, dark, and dusty, the walls were constructed from beautiful Victorian brickwork. Despite being unusable, the attic space was very large, so a roof light conversion made perfect sense.
Throughout the project, the owners worked closely with our design team to develop a layout that maximised the available space. A key part of this process was establishing a space-efficient stairwell. After talking through the options, our clients decided to install the stairs and landing in an area with slightly less head height than normal to open up more space for the bedroom and bathroom.
At the top of the stairwell, we’ve installed two large SK06 VELUX® windows to flood the landing with natural light. Despite the restricted head height, we’ve added an open handrail to maintain a spacious feel. Our clients frequently work from home, so we’ve added a desk on the landing to improve the conversion’s functionality.
As you enter the master bedroom, you’re again greeted by a large, bright space thanks to two more skylight windows. We’ve installed wooden cladding along the party wall in a calming shade of green that acts as a fantastic focal point for the room. The new bedroom is much larger than our client’s existing one, and they’ve installed fitted wardrobes to really make the most of their space.
The four-piece ensuite bathroom features a free-standing bath, an LED-lit soap box featuring different tiling to the rest of the room, and an extremely popular brass finish. It’s the perfect space to prepare for the day or wind down after work.
